Badminton Wales congratulates Bernadino Lorenzo on becoming BEC Accredited Umpire. We wish Bernadino all the best in his journey to the top and will support him throughout. We are proud to have umpires with the dedication such as Bernadino.
Speaking to Bernadino he tells us:
“In 2008 when I started volunteering for Badminton Wales as a Line Judge, same year when I’ve started holding a badminton racket and played socially. I didn’t know that I will enjoy it so much, to the point that I worked my way up from being a National Technical official for Badminton at the London Olympics, Glasgow Commonwealth Games and eventually became a BWF International Line Judge.
My passion and love for this sport never stopped me, So I’ve decided to became a Welsh National Umpire. With the great support from Badminton Wales , I’m able to attend Tournaments in Europe to gain experience and learning on how to be a better umpire. Now finally the hard works has paid off, the mission to be upgraded as a Accredited BEC umpire has happen . There is still a lot to be learned on the way, not only on the practical side of umpiring but also keeping a sound mind and heart on the Rules and Regulations of Badminton. The next step is to work my way up to the next level, It may be a long way for now , but I will be definitely representing Badminton Wales and be proud as a Welsh Umpire . I maybe a Filipino by birth, but my Heart is Cymru.”
