National Senior Championships Report


  • Day 1

Day 1 of the Championships unfolded in a fantastic atmosphere, with players, coaches, volunteers, and spectators creating a warm, supportive environment throughout a busy and action‑packed schedule.

Mixed Doubles

The day began with a full set of Round‑of‑32 mixed doubles matches. Early victories were earned by
– Joseph Channon & Gabriella Rossi,
– Dan & Maisie Kite,
– James Ellaway & Megan Pritchard,
– Joe Cottrill & Wanwimon Lloyd,
– and Connor Williams & Hongdi Wang,
each pair advancing with solid teamwork and strong attacking play.
As the competition moved into the Round of 16, top seeds Andrew Oates & Aimie Whiteman, along with Tsung Mo & Isha Mekala and Llwyd Crump & Terrie Dalton, progressed confidently, supported by enthusiastic cheers from the crowd.

Men’s Singles

The Men’s Singles rounds brought a blend of dominant wins and tightly contested matches.
Top seed Harper Leigh showed sharp form in both his Round‑of‑32 and Round‑of‑16 matches, while Llwyd Crump, Mebel Kurian, and David Wilson also put in strong performances.

Women’s Singles

The Women’s Singles event concluded on Day 1, with Isha Mekala securing the title through a series of commanding performances. Her consistency, accuracy, and composure were evident from the opening round through to the final match.

However, the day was equally defined by the efforts of her fellow competitors.
Miya Pan, Gabriella Rossi, and Eva Zhu all displayed resilience and flashes of brilliant play throughout the rounds.

Day 1 closed with the Women’s Singles champion crowned and many players walking away proud of their performances.


  • Day 2

Day 2 opened with the same great, welcoming atmosphere that defined the first day. Players were met with warm encouragement from spectators, volunteers, and fellow competitors, creating a supportive environment that carried through every rally, point, and match. With semi‑finals and finals across all major events, the hall was filled with energy, anticipation, and appreciation for the skill and sportsmanship on display.

Mixed Doubles

The morning began with two Mixed Doubles semi‑finals.
Andrew Salvador & Emily Hung produced a spirited performance but were edged out by second seeds Llwyd Crump & Terrie Dalton, who held their nerve in three close games. Salvador and Hung left the court to strong applause after pushing the higher‑seeded pair hard throughout.

The second semi‑final saw top seeds Andrew Oates & Aimie Whiteman advance with a composed straight‑games win over Dan & Maisie Kite, who put up determined resistance against one of the strongest pairings in the draw.

The Mixed Doubles Final, held after lunch, showcased confident, controlled badminton from Oates & Whiteman, who secured the title with a straight‑games victory over Crump & Dalton. Despite the loss, Crump and Dalton earned well‑deserved recognition for their excellent run to the final and their fighting spirit throughout the match.

Men’s Singles

Both Men’s Singles semi‑finals featured high‑quality rallies and great mutual respect between competitors.
Top seed Harper Leigh moved into the final with a solid win over Mebel Kurian, although Kurian contributed plenty of sharp attacking play and forced Leigh to maintain consistently high standards.

In the other semi‑final, Llwyd Crump produced a composed performance to overcome Archie Bult in straight games. Bult’s intelligent shot choices and work rate impressed the crowd, who responded warmly to his efforts.

The Men’s Singles Final was a thrilling three‑game battle between Leigh and Crump, both athletes showing tremendous character and physical grit. Leigh eventually claimed the title  but Crump’s resilience and refusal to fade in the later stages earned him enthusiastic support from the crowd.

Women’s Doubles

The Women’s Doubles semi‑finals brought a mixture of dominant displays and closely fought contests.
Top seeds Isha Mekala & Aimie Whiteman advanced with a sharp and confident performance over Emily Hung & Nerissa Liu, who showed excellent teamwork and composure despite the scoreline.

The second semi‑final proved to be one of the matches of the morning. Eva Edwards & Kiri Everett pushed second seeds Tessa Franks & Maisie Kite to the limit in a dramatic three‑game contest that ended 27–25 in the decider. Although Edwards and Everett fell just short, they were widely applauded for their courage under pressure.

In the Women’s Doubles Final, Mekala & Whiteman delivered another impressive performance, securing the title with a strong straight‑games win. Franks & Kite continued to fight for every point and maintained great spirit throughout, earning the respect of everyone present.

Men’s Doubles

The Men’s Doubles semi‑finals offered contrasting styles but equally strong competitive spirit.
Alex Ewins & Lawrence Nemestothy pushed third seeds Llwyd Crump & Man Leung to three tough games, coming close to forcing an upset but ultimately falling short. Their effort was met with warm appreciation from supporters.

Meanwhile, Andrew & Scott Oates produced a polished semi‑final performance against Jeremy Chua & Tsung Mo, who showed great determination throughout.

The Men’s Doubles Final featured Crump & Leung against the Oates brothers.
