Game On: The Community Challenge Cup Launches in Wales

Badminton Wales is proud to announce the official launch of the Community Challenge Cup, a landmark initiative designed to engage and celebrate the global majority population within the Welsh badminton landscape. Supported by Sport Wales, this event marks a significant step in our commitment to making badminton the most accessible and inclusive sport in the country.

The Community Challenge Cup aims to bridge the gap between recreational play and the official governing body, welcoming players who are not currently members to experience the professional support, structured opportunities, and vibrant community that Badminton Wales provides.

At the heart of the Community Challenge Cup is the belief that badminton is for everyone. Alongside the competitive matches, the debut event will feature dedicated playing and fun sessions for neurodivergent children. This ensures a welcoming space for families and participants of all abilities.

Furthermore, Badminton Wales is actively developing plans to introduce specialized training sessions for women within the community. This reflects our ongoing strategy to dismantle barriers to participation and promote equality across all levels of the sport.

A Word from our Leadership

“This is a key step in our strategy to reach communities that we have not engaged with enough. We want to show the wider badminton community in Wales the opportunities that come with being part of Badminton Wales, and most importantly, to create a space where everyone feels welcome, included, and celebrated for their love of the game.”

— Kelly Aston MBE OLY, CEO of Badminton Wales

A spokesperson from Sport Wales added: “We are delighted to support this new initiative from Badminton Wales and host its debut event in the Sport Wales National Centre. The Community Challenge Cup is a fantastic example of creating diverse and accessible sport opportunities and supporting a more active nation.”

Our Partners / Ein Partneriaid

This initiative would not be possible without the collaboration of our community partners. We extend our sincere thanks to the Bengal Dragons Foundation and the Welsh Bengals Sporting Club for their invaluable support in delivering this pilot project.

Following this initial event, Badminton Wales plans to expand the Community Challenge Cup to include other demographics and community groups throughout the year.
