The Welsh International Open is the biggest event in the Badminton Wales events calendar.

The Welsh International (WINT) is an annual event in the Badminton Europe calendar. WINT will welcome world class players to Wales, to battle for vital world ranking points in a display of some of the best badminton in the world.

WINT will return to Sport Wales National Centre from the 26th November- 30th November 2024!

  • Sport Wales National Centre, Sophia Close, Cardiff, CF11 9SW

    The Sport Wales National Centre (SWNC) is located within a ten-minute walk of Cardiff’s city centre.

    Main Arena | The Welsh International Open will be played in the Main Arena on the ground floor.

    Practice Courts | Jubilee Hall on the first floor.

    Other Facilities | Changing Rooms, Physiotherapy Rooms, Water Fountain

    HWB Cafe | On the second floor of SWNC, you will find the HWB Café where hot and cold food and drink can be purchased daily.

    Monday-Thursday opening at 08:00- closing at 19:00 & Friday- Sunday opening at 08:00- closing at 16:00.

    However, hot food is only available between the following times: Breakfast: 08:00-10:00 | Lunch: 12:00-13:30 | Dinner: 17:30-19:00

    Coffee Shop | There is also a coffee shop in the reception area of SWNC also open daily. Monday- Thursday, 08:00-19:00 & Weekends, 08:00-16:00.

    All entries must be made using the BWF Online Entry System.

    Entries must be submitted no later than Tuesday 29th October 23.59 BWF HQ time (GMT + 8hrs)

    No late entries will be accepted.

    The draws will be live- 19th November 2024

    Visas

    Players who require a Visa to enter the UK should complete the attached form requesting an official letter from Badminton Wales | https://forms.office.com/e/fQSb9PW9Ur

    Transport

    Cardiff Airport | Transport to and from Cardiff Airport will be provided by Badminton Wales via Flightlink. If you require this service, please complete the Travel Request form: https://forms.office.com/e/WsE5gDUDDQ

    Please note Flightlink are based at Cardiff Airport so will require at least 30 minutes to get to Sport Wales National Centre. Details of any changes to travel arrangements must be done via the player support desk in order for transfer arrangements to be revised.

    National Express Bus Station | The National Express bus station is located adjacent to SWNC. For information regarding bus timetables and routes visit the National Express website: https://www.nationalexpress.com/en

    Cardiff Central Train Station | Is a twenty-minute walk from SWNC or a ten-minute drive. SWNC is located straight down Westgate Street (via the front of the station), over the bridge, take a left through Bute park and follow the walkway along until you reach Sport Wales National Centre. (If you reach the cricket ground you have gone slightly to far!)

    Taxi Services | There are a number of taxi companies operating in Cardiff including:

    Parking | There is free parking available at the SWNC.

  • We Need Your Help! 

    WINT is a BWF event and the world’s best players will all be fighting to get as many qualification points as possible. Volunteering at this event is a great opportunity to be court side for some world class badminton!

    Here are the volunteering roles we have available:

    • Player/ Spectator Support
    • Media Coverage
    • Match Control
    • VIP & Officials Support
    • General 

    All of the above roles are adaptable and can be altered to suit any area of the event you would like to be involved in.

    The Volunteering Shifts we would be looking at are (Tuesday- Saturday):

    • 9:00-13:00
    • 13:00-17:00
    • 17:00-21:00

    However, these times can be altered to suit if they don’t work for you!

    Training will be provided, if required for your role, before the event as well as clothing and food on any days you volunteer.

    If you are member of a Badminton Wales affiliated club, please speak to your club secretary as each club gets given 10 free tickets.
