What Should I Do If Something Is Wrong?

You have the right to be safe at badminton. Adults, coaches, and leaders at your session are responsible for your safety. Here is how to know what a good, safe environment looks like—and what to do if things don't feel right.

Good Interactions Look Like This...

THEY DO:

  • Make you feel safe and look after you.
  • Make badminton fun and enjoyable.
  • Keep everywhere safe (hall, courts, toilets).
  • Talk to you, explain things, and ask for permission.

THEY DO NOT:

  • Never touch you in private areas.
  • Never ask you to do anything you don't want to.
  • Never work with you in a small room alone.
  • Never threaten, abuse, or message you personally.

How Do You Feel?

It is normal to feel safe. If you don't, read the words below to find what matches your situation.

You Feel Safe

Safe, Cared For, Respected

Adults are friendly and help you improve. You feel included, listened to, and the hall feels safe. You enjoy badminton!

You Have Worries

Anxious, Lonely, Unhappy

You don't feel safe all the time. People are not being nice. Coach shouts for no reason, or activities feel unsafe.
👉 Tell a trusted adult soon.

Not Being Looked After

Ignored, Excluded, Forgotten

You're not allowed to rest when tired, or not helped if you get hurt. You feel forgotten about.
👉 Speak to a trusted adult straight away.

Hurt, Bullied, Unkind

Harm: Hit or injured.

Frightened, Lost, Threatened

Someone is taking you somewhere scary, threatening to badly hurt or kill you, or you are forced into a dangerous situation.
🚨 CALL 999 NOW. Get to an adult if you can.

📝 Collect Evidence

It can be easy to forget, so it's important to keep notes if something doesn't feel right.

  • When? Write the date down.
  • Who? What were the names of the people involved?
  • Where? Where did this happen?
  • What happened? Write down as much detail as possible.
  • Feelings: How did it make you feel?
  • Action: What do you want to happen?

🗣️ What to Say

It can be hard to talk. Being clear helps adults understand and help you.

  • 1. Who are you? Tell them your name and age.
  • 2. What you're reporting: Tell them why you're talking to them.
  • 3. Tell them your evidence: Say all of it. Use your notes!
  • 4. What you want to happen: Tell them exactly what you want to happen next.
