43 players contesting 4979 with no aggravation between any player, to this as the tournament secretary I thank you all for. It is this attitude that makes running the tournaments all worth while.
In the Ladies Double we lost the top seeded pair due to illness but this did not detract from the quality of the games that were played not for the pair that won the gold medals. From group A went Wanwimon (Luknam) Lloyd (Yorkshire) & Jess Markey (North East Wales) and Emma Paton & Amelia Ives (North East Wales) and from Group B went Megan Rowlands & Jennifer Moss (North East Wales) & Laura & Zoe Watts (Lancashire). Luknam & Jess played and beat Laura & Zoe and Megan & Jennifer played and beat Emma & Amelia. A play off game was played between Julie & Hayley Turner from group A who beat the development junior pairing of Isabel Williams & Amelie Chandran from group B 21/16. The final was won by Luknam (ex Great Orme) and Jess defeating Megan & Jennifer.
The Men’s Doubles pitched 12 pairs to find the winner. From Group A went Joe Cottrill (Conwy) & Jamie Noble (North East Wales) and Josh Hart (Anglesey) & John Nuttall (Liverpool), from Group B went Josh Backhouse (Yorkshire) & Adam Purcell (North East Wales) and Riaz Javidahamed & Raj Britto (Conwy), from Group C went Oliver Harrington & Ed Highton (Cheshire) and Liam Hird & Matthew Swash (North East Wales). Three groups gave two quarter-finals and these were Tom & Tom beating Riaz & Raj in three games and in the 2nd quarter-final semi-finals & John beat Liam & Matthew. The two quarter-finals were hard fought games which carried on into the two semi-finals where Joe & Jamie beat Tom & Tom in three games and Josh H & John beat Josh B & Adam. Joe & Jamie prevailed in the final winning the gold medals.
The Mixed Doubles finished off the tournament with four groups of players. Into the quarter-finals from Group A went Joe Cottrill & Georgia Hughes (Conwy) & Oliver & Katy Harrington (Cheshire), from Group B Jamie Noble & Ellen Liddle (North East Wales) and Josh Hart & Steff Oliver-Smith (Anglesey), from Group C Josh Backhouse & Luknam Lloyd (Yorkshire) and Tom Longdin & Jennifer Moss (North East Wales) and from Group D Adam Purcell & Jess Markey (North East Wales) and Liam & Lily Hird (North East Wales). The knockout stage was another feast of badminton starting with the quarter-finals and into the semi-finals went Joe & Georgia Conwy) who beat Tom & Jennifer (North East Wales), Adam & Jess (North East Wales) who beat Josh H & Steff (Anglesey), Josh B & Luknam (Yorkshire) who beat Oliver & Katie Harrington (Cheshire) and Jamie & Ellen (North East Wales who beat Liam & Lily Hird (North East Wales). This gave a final between the two top seeds, the match and gold medals were won by the 2nd seeds Jamie & Ellen.
Again I thank all of the players for the attitude in which you all played the tournament, every match, every game and every one of the 4979 points won.
The senior Open was the penultimate in the Great Orme Tournament Series and putting them all together what a series it has been. Last event will be the Great Orme “Conwy Masters” (over 40’s) in April 2023.
Regards to all
