Annual Reviews

Players who achieve performance criteria throughout the year will be evaluated during the annual review meeting in December to determine their eligibility for a place on the BWPP.

All current BWPP players will undergo an annual review to assess their performance and progression throughout the calendar year. Players will be evaluated on their results, performances, and overall progress against their agreed development goals.

The review will also consider whether players are demonstrating the level of progress and commitment required to remain on the programme.

BWPP Review Process

The following outlines the Performance Principles necessary for BWPP selection. Selection is not solely based on results; instead, it considers four equally important factors. Each player will be evaluated against these four criteria to determine their eligibility and invitation to join the BWPP.

Commitment to BWPP

Commitment to BWPP involves adhering to the recommended training load and competitive exposure. Players must meet the on-court and off-court training hours appropriate for their developmental stage and work towards the weekly training hours required for full-time play. They should ensure the quantity and quality of their competitive exposure aligns with their development needs and the identified domestic / international competitions, as outlined in the Player Agreement and in consultation with the Head of Performance.

Performance Behaviour & Programme Engagement

The player consistently exhibits the performance behaviours outlined in the 'Time To Rise' core values. They must proactively manage their own development, show high levels of self-reliance and professionalism, and maintain a positive, open growth mindset towards learning and improvement. The player must also fully engage with their BWPP, appropriate to their stage in the development pathway.

Performance Trajectory

Players will demonstrate continuous improvement in performance standards and progress in their identified development areas.

Results

The performance team has established guidelines to define the required standards of results for players in the BWPP.

Player Tracking and Monitoring

BW will monitor players competing in our domestic tournaments, Badminton England's domestic events, and international circuit tournaments.

We recognise that players develop at different rates and ages throughout their journey. Therefore, our BWPP offers a flexible approach, allowing players to join at any stage — provided they meet our criteria.

The BW review panel will conduct biannual evaluations to assess player progress and ensure alignment with BW and GB performance pathway standards.
