Badminton Wales is deeply saddened to hear of the passing of former Chair Robert ‘Bob’ Hall on Sunday 23rd June 2024.
Bob, as he was known to all in the badminton world was involved with badminton in Wales for many years and in many different roles. He first came into contact with the Welsh Badminton Union during the very first WBU Roadshow in Abergavenny, on Friday 2nd September 1988. Here he was instrumental in rallying the locals and ensuring a very large, enthusiastic attendance on the first night of this new initiative.
Following on from this, increased activity took place in the area, and Bob was at the forefront, with his son Matthew becoming a very successful junior, both locally and eventually at international level, making his debut against Scotland, with his dad alongside him as Wales Team Manager.
Bob was not only Senior National Manager for a period but also assisted with a number of junior teams, before moving into further leadership roles. Bob joined the WBU Board as a Director before becoming Vice Chair, and eventually Chair from 2006 to 2009.
As Chair, Bob was known for his calm nature and sense of humour as well as being very focused on getting things done. Relaxed and productive Board meetings were often held in the beautiful surroundings of Crickhowell, Bob’s home-town.
Through the various roles he played Bob was an enormous asset to badminton in Wales for many years.
The sincere thoughts of everyone at Badminton Wales go to Bob’s wife Lynda and all the family at this extremely difficult time.
