The Cardiff Junior Gold event took place on the 19 and 20 January 2019 and the Sport Wales National Centre. The tournament attracted Welsh International juniors and also showcased the young talent emerging.
Both the U-13 singles finals were hard fought games with the girl’s winner Bhavana Balu beating Ishasriya Mekala. In the boy’s finals Llwyd Crump beat Amay Patil in a hard fought out three set final.
The U-13 girls doubles Hannah Ahmad and Bhavana Balu beat Sian Jones and Bethany Preston 15-10, 15-9. Faaris Ahmad and Llwyd Crump beat Amay Patil and Eshaan Patil in the boys U-13 doubles.
In the mixed U-13 doubles Llwyd Crump and Hannah Ahmad beat Faaris Ahmad and Bhavana Balu.
In the U-17 boys singles Thomas Morgan beat Saahen Shetty in three sets 6-15 15-4 16-14. In the U-17 girls singles Maisey Kite beat Lydia Morris in a thrilling 3 setter 11-15 15-13 15-13.
The U-17 boys doubles saw Adil Khan and Nabil Taufiqurrahman beat Harper Leigh and Thomas Morgan 15-8 15-4. In the mixed doubles Fearne Williams and Kieran Gullick took the gold beating Nabil Taufiqurrahman and Maisey Kite.
The U-15 event took place on Sunday starting with the singles. The event started with the singles with Matthew Logan beating Amay Patil in a nail biting final 10-15 15-8 15-13. The girl’s singles was as equally thrilling with Maisey Kite beating Anest Fells 15-9 15-9.
The U-15 doubles started with the boys with Amay Patil and Eshaan Patil beating Faaris Ahmed and Joshua Humphreys. The U-15 girls doubles saw Anest Fells and Georgia Turvey beating Madeleine Hitt and Sravanthi Mekala to take the gold.
The final match of the day was the mixed doubles with Maisey Kite and Amay Patil beating Bhavana Balu and Marek Rokicki.
Well done to all the players for the manner of their play whether that was winning with grace or losing with dignity.
